23" Christine has found a wonderful home!......................SOLD

I am pleased to introduce you to Christine.  She is 23" tall and fully jointed.  Christine looks like she was found in an attic.  She has that nice old patina on her face, hands and body.  Her eyes are antique black glass pupiless eyes and her hair is some really old hair from an early doll that I repurposed for her.  Her long jacket is made from very early block printed cotton that is amazing.  Her hand quilted petticoat is a very good match to the faded blue in her jacket but I was having trouble getting good photos.  She has silk shoes and a cloth flat hat to match her jacket and lace up corset/bodice.  Her clothes, other than her chemise are all removable.  She also has removable tie on sleeveletts to complete her look.  Her cap is very early hand made lace that I made into a cap for her and it removes as well.   She also has an extra petticoat that is all hand stitched and wonderful!  She would be a great doll if you like to sew and wanted to make a trousseau for her.  She stands and sits well and loves to be spoiled with clothing!
Enjoy.
Christine is SOLD.

17" Annie, Fully Jointed Wooden Queen Anne Doll...............SOLD

Meet Annie.  She is 17" tall and fully jointed.  She is dressed in a really great antique block printed linen from England.  I tried to capture the colour of her dress but the flash is giving me grief.  The fabric is a creamy beige and a faded coral/reddish colour.  So much nicer in person and more faded.
Annie has antique black glass eyes and her patina is really very believable.  She has the very tiny dotted eyebrows, typical of these 1780-1790's dolls.
ANNIE IS NOW SOLD.

Handcarved Wooden Queen Anne doll, 9 1/2" Ella...................SOLD

Here is 9 1/2” Ella.  I could not wait to show you my first completed doll of 2014!  She is so sweet.  Her eyes are antique black pupiless glass eyes.  She is hand carved from basswood and dressed in 18th Century hand painted silk that is to die for!  I had been coveting this piece for several years and it suits Ella just perfectly I think.

Her patina is really wonderful and I hope you can see it well in the photos below.  She has beautiful, delicate hands that I carved for her.

I hope you love her.  Ella is SOLD. If you would like more photos or have any questions, just email me: toysintheattic@sympatico.ca

Happy New Year To All!!

I would like to take a moment to wish all of my faithful followers a Very Happy New Year.  I would also like to thank so many people for all of their support and encouragement over the last year since the devastating fire that we had here.  It has been a really difficult year here and no one will be happier to say good bye to 2013 than us.
Here is to hoping that 2014 is a great year for everyone!
Happy New Year and a Sincere Thank you!
Kathy
Above is my studio as it looks now, at least before the 3 feet of snow that we have today!
Below is my husband's new building.  You will see that our buildings are no longer attached like they used to be prior to the fire.
We have a new kind of normal here now.

9" Baby Liz, Hand Carved Wooden Queen Anne Style Doll...................SOLD

Baby Liz is 9" long plus her long gown.  She is jointed at the hips and has linen upper arms and beautifully carved little fingers.  Liz has antique glass eyes and really wonderful patina which I hope you can see in these photos.  She sits well.  Her gown is made from antique Ayrshire cotton lace that came from the UK.  Her little bonnet is darling too.
She is just the right size for the some of the larger ladies that I have made to hold on their lap.  She also looks wonderful in a small antique cradle on her own.
Enjoy.

Martha Higgs, 13" Hand Carved Wooden Doll Circa 1680.............SOLD

I am so pleased so show you Martha Higgs.  She is 13" tall and has a swivel head.  She is fully jointed and has wonderful little hands.  The patina on this doll is really wonderful but I am not so sure it will show as well in these quick photos.  I am putting some photos of her on here tonight so you can see her.  It is a bit late for taking photos in here tonight so if you would like more photos just email me and I can take some more in the morning.  This will be the last doll I am making before Christmas............time to do some baking!
Martha is dressed in some very drab early madder coloured cotton that looks bright in these photos but it is not.  She has a tiny hand stitched chemise, wonderful fine wool skirt and her long jacket, which took me hours to make and fit to her.  She has tiny hand stitched madder shoes as well.  Her body is really wonderful and was almost too nice to cover up!  She has several worn patches on her face, typical of this time period.  Because of all the disease and health issues of the time it became fashionable to cover the blemishes with patches.
I hope you enjoy the photos.
Martha Higgs is SOLD.
If you have questions or would like more photos just email me:  toysintheattic@sympatico.ca
I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas
I just have to share the lovely email that I just received from the lady that purchased Martha Higgs!
Oh, Kathy, I wish I had just the right words to convey my delight as I opened your box which was here on my porch when I got home just a half hour ago!
Martha Higgs is absolutely amazing and so FULL of personality ~ I am struck by how beautifully she is crafted but also how instilled she is with a mischievous but kindly personality which I just adore!…..she just makes me laugh ~ Oh, how I DO love her!!!!! what a beauty she is…..and, oh, her lovely clothes…..that wonderful madder fabric is so delicate and also so rich in its color…..the folds are still all intact ~ but I have her seated in the miniature blue Windsor chair and I wonder if that is a mistake as it may cause problems with it ~ perhaps I should get a stand for her….her swivel head is turned towards the dolls feather tree.  Oh, my goodness, it is a picture of fanciful delight!  Her face is just SO wonderful ~ her smile, her coloring is so warm and just perfect…..her lovely simple cap perfect with her jacket and chemise….and that dear fine wool skirt ~ oh, how I love every detail ~ and, as always, so perfectly stitched by you…..carved by you….imagined by you…..and your dear kind card which reassures me that you are happy that Martha has found a home with me just makes me even more grateful to you, Kathy, I do wish you were here when I opened up the box and put her together again!!!!!…..I am totally delighted with her ~ Thank you so very much for making it possible for me to have her ~ Oh, she is a such treasure!!!!!

Meet Kathryn Higgs, an early wooden William Higgs type doll with a swivel head................SOLD

This is Kathryn Higgs.  She is a William Higgs type doll from 1680's that is fully jointed and hand carved.  Kathryn is a swivel head Higgs.  I love this look and she has a real personality!  I thought I would share some photos of her head and her body while I was working on her.   I am so pleased with this doll.  She is 15 1/2' tall.   Kathryn truly looks like she was found in an attic!
I have been saving a wonderful piece of 1700's linen with small scale wool crewel work all over it for a special early doll.  Kathryn Higgs is now wearing it!  This is an amazing doll and I just can't wait to show you more of her.  Scroll down, I have just added lots of photos of Kathryn Higgs showing her all finished!!
This doll and the fabric on her is truly amazing and so much nicer than she looks in these photos.  The patina on this doll is really wonderful.
She is now SOLD.
